ORQUESTRA GALEGA DE LIBERACIÓN

SPAIN (Galiza/Santiago de Compostela)

LEADER: XACOBE MARTÍNEZ ANTELO

DISCIPLINE: Music / Movement / Visual arts

The Orquestra Galega de Liberación consists of a diverse ensemble of 25 artists based in Galicia, united by their commitment to avant-garde music, spontaneous creation, and improvisation as a means of exploration. This ongoing project features distinguished artists and performers from various disciplines, including classical music, jazz, and contemporary performance.

With about twenty musicians who boast impressive careers and international recognition, the orchestra has cultivated a unique and ambitious initiative deeply rooted in the avant-garde musical landscape. Despite its relatively short existence, the Orquestra Galega de Liberación has already released three recordings that highlight its innovative approach. Each piece on these albums was improvised live and composed in real-time using improvisational directing techniques, with no pre-agreed or previously composed material. The recordings capture three full concerts performed in Santiago de Compostela, Narón, and Tui.

Additionally, the group has formed a smaller ensemble, Ensemble Liberdade, to explore different venues, festivals, and programs. This smaller ensemble includes a string quartet, percussion, and a woodwind trio.
