Orquestra Pictofônica (originally named Soundpainting Belo Horizonte) was founded in 2011 by João Paulo Prazeres following a workshop with Walter Thompson in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It is the oldest active Soundpainting project in Brazil and is well-known within the experimental and non-pre-composed music scene in Belo Horizonte.

Since 2017, Pictofônica has been conducting artistic laboratories in Soundpainting, collaborating with local artists from music, dance, theater, and visual arts. These projects have been supported by the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Fundação Nacional das Artes (Funarte).

João Paulo Prazeres, the leader of Pictofônica, is a certified soundpainter, musician, and researcher. Prazeres holds a Master’s Degree in Music from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, with a thesis titled “A tecnologia criativa do Soundpainting: contexto, reflexões e expansões.”
