PARIS Masterclass : “Soundpainting Pedagogy”
Johan Sabbe is a Belgian soundpainter and musician with a strong background in jazz piano and composition, having studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He has actively participated in various artistic roles, including pianist, arranger, conductor, and educator. Since 2010, he has been studying Soundpainting under Walter Thompson and has performed across Europe.
As the founder of the Safety Last Soundpainting Ensemble, Johan not only promotes this innovative art form but also teaches it at various academies and conservatories in Flanders. He is dedicated to using Soundpainting as a tool for socio-artistic projects and has contributed significantly to the educational landscape in this field.
For this Parisian master class, Johan will be focusing on pedagogy and assessment strategies,, emphasizing how we teach Soundpainting and explore effective learning methods.

Although the workshop targets advanced techniques, beginners are welcome. For novices, a 2-hour Zoom session with Claude Whipple is offered to help you prepare effectively.

Certifications:
Successfully passing the Certification authorizes the use of "Soundpainting” in a professional teaching context. Certified Soundpainters are listed on Soundpainting.com
Certifications will take place on Monday April 7th (morning). All performers are welcome. It’s a perfect occasion to practice and learn while helping the candidates.
Certification consists in a 15-20 minute interview and a 10-20’ composition.
We advise you study SP workbooks 1, 2 and 3 (according to your level), you’ll find all the answers !
